New Year’s can be a stressful day for our canine companions. There are unfamiliar sounds (did you know they can hear sounds 4 times further away than we can?) and their routine changes while we party.

We want your pup to feel safe and happy through all the holidays, so here are our tips and tricks:

Tailr Classic ID Pet Tag - Modern Companion

Make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise before the fun starts.

Go for a longer walk and visit our New Year’s Eve Pawty to get rid of excess energy. Be sure to keep your dog leashed with their ID tag on in case a neighbor tests out fireworks earlier in the day.

Tinned Octopus Nosework Toy - Modern Companion

Give your dog something to do to keep them occupied.

There’s nothing quite like a good distraction. If your dog is entertained with something new or exciting, they’ll be less likely to care about other things going on. You can play one of your favorite games, enjoy some enrichment time, or test out a new toy or lick mat!

Pupsicle Pops - Calming - Modern Companion

Try calming treats or CBD treats.

Some calming treats can help naturally soothe your pet when they’re feeling anxious. Ingredients like magnesium. tryptophan (like your Thanksgiving turkey!), and passion flower can help your pet relax in stressful situations.

For pups who may need something a little stronger, CBD Bites can be a good option. CBD can also help lower anxiety to help your dog stay calm on a pretty chaotic day. CBD bites are carefully dosed to make relieving your pet’s stress easy. Our CBD treats are available in store only but calming treats are available online!

Practice ahead of time.

One of our favorite ways to combat holiday fear is to practice ahead of time. Grab some toys and treats and turn on a video of some fireworks. That way you can practice having fun during the scary noises before the big night!
