Retail Assistant

Modern Companion is still on the hunt for our Second Retail Assistant to join the team and work 4 days a week from 4–6pm. We’ve already hired one new assistant, and now we’re looking for the perfect person to round out the duo. We’re looking for a responsible, detail-oriented, and outgoing high school student who brings great energy to our shop and thrives in a team environment.

This role is ideal for a rising sophomore or junior looking for consistent after-school hours and the opportunity to grow with us over the next couple of years. I’m expecting a baby in January, so it’s especially important that we find someone who can commit to this timeframe long-term, meaning seniors or anyone graduating this upcoming year might not be the best fit, as we’re hoping to avoid re-hiring again next summer.

About the role:

This is a part-time position working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4–6pm during the school year at our retail store in Chapin, SC. Additional hours may be requested on an as-needed basis for special events, holiday weekends, school breaks, or extra weekday coverage.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Packing online orders

  • Prepping for Soda City market

  • Receiving inventory, barcoding, and placing products on the floor

  • Running the register and helping customers

  • Store closing duties (vacuuming, cleaning, tidying up)

  • Assisting with social media content during downtime (being comfortable on camera is a bonus, but not required)

No experience needed, but you should be:

  • Reliable, with reliable transportation and able to follow through on tasks

  • Friendly and comfortable talking with customers

  • Willing to learn and take initiative

  • Focused on details and organization

  • A pet lover (having pets in your home is a must!)
