Local Chapin Pet Boutique Receives National Award for “America’s Coolest” by Pets+ Magazine

Local Chapin, South Carolina pet boutique Modern Companion, has been chosen as one of "America's Coolest" by PETS+, The Better Business Magazine for American Pet Pros, in its sixth annual contest.

In total, 16 businesses earned America's Coolest title this year. The contest highlights top independent pet stores and service providers in the U.S. Entries were judged based on their history, exterior and interior appearance, marketing, online presence, and individuality.

PETS+ Editor-in-Chief Pamela Mitchell and SmartWork Media Group Managing Editor Chris Burslem conducted internal judging of the more than 80 entries. Finalists were sent to this year's industry judges: Jessica Cooke, Yuppy Puppy, 2021 America's Coolest winner; Lyn Falk, Retailworks, Inc.; Anne Ferrante, American Pet Products Association; Jane Harrell, 'cause Digital Marketing; and Bo Nelson, WholesalePet.com.

Owner and founder Madison St. Gelais announced their news on their social platforms Friday morning:

"It's truly an honor to be one of the finalists this year. We celebrate and owe this achievement to our local community, friends, family, and online customer base that continues to support and follow us on this incredible journey. We could not do what we do without them. They have continued to stick with us through every new aspect of our business. And for that, we are internally grateful."

St. Gelais continues to push the limits of her business by offering her line of accessories, and a variety of curated products made up of toys, treats, food, and so much more in her retail store and online store. They also host multiple pet-friendly events throughout the year and are a frequent vendor at Columbia's Soda City Market.

"This achievement and dedication to our business is just the beginning for us," says St. Gelais. "We're on a mission to provide the best experience, products, and advice possible for the modern-day pet parent. This award proves we're on the right track."

Modern Companion started as an online pet accessory brand in 2019 by owner Madison St. Gelais who was in her early twenties when she started the business.

After building a social platform and developing a sense of community with her customers and followers, she expanded the business into a brick-and-mortar storefront in 2021. The storefront is located at 508B Lexington Ave in Chapin, South Carolina.
